[Sobre o Windows 10] Announcing Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 14271

Today, we are releasing Build 14271 for PC to Windows Insiders in the Fast ring. We’re also releasing Build 14267.1004 for mobile to Windows Insiders in the Fast ring. This will be the first time we release builds for PC and mobile on the same day and at the same time. For PC, Build 14271 brings a lot of improvements and bug fixes that are based on feedback we have received from Windows Insiders.

Getting feedback is an integral part of the Windows Insider Program. After each build upgrade or after certain activities, Windows will often ask for feedback. The answers to these questions is used by our engineering teams to understand how Windows Insiders feel about a particular experience or a particular build. Starting with Build 14271 and newer, the frequency in which Windows will ask for your feedback will be locked to “Automatically (Recommended)” in the Settings app and managed by the Windows Insider Program. If having the ability to change this setting is important to you – you can roll back to the Windows 10 November Update (the latest build or future builds in our Current Branch) and disable Windows 10 Insider Preview builds on that device. You will then be able to change this setting. While we don’t require Windows Insiders to answer these questions, we do hope they take the time to answer them so that we can better improve Windows for our customers.

[Sobre Windows 10] Workaround for Windows 10 Build 14267 Power Bug

By releasing five builds in five weeks Microsoft has been nailing their commitment to get builds out faster to testers. That faster release pace means the risk of more bugginess but they have been fairly stable on my test system - an HP Spectre x360.

[Sobre o Windows 10] Announcing Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 14267

Hi everyone,

Today, we are releasing Build 14267 to Windows Insiders in the Fast ring.

Just to quickly recap the changes we’ve made to rings for Insiders in 2016:
  1. We introduced the new Release Preview ring last week which is for Windows Insiders who want to stay on the Current Branch (currently builds based off of Build 10586), but continue to receive early access to updates, application updates, and driver updates. This is a great option for people who want to get updates early but not go all the way to installing full preview builds. Because the Release Preview ring offers updates to the Current Branch, it is only visible to devices on the Current Branch (Build 10586). If you are on a newer build, flights to the Release Preview ring won’t be applicable to that device. The easiest way to go between the Development Branch to the Current Branch is to use the Media Creation Tool to reinstall Windows 10.
  2. We’ve adjusted the criteria we use to release new builds to Windows Insiders in the Fast ring to get builds out more quickly – this means these builds may include more bugs and other issues that could be slightly more painful to live with. So if you’d like to change your ring to stick to more stable builds you can go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update > Advanced options and under “Get Insider Preview builds” moving the slider to the Slow ring.

[Sobre o Windows 10] Free eBook: Introducing Windows 10 for IT Professionals

It’s hard ignore free, but even harder to disregard a free eBook about a free operating system from a qualified author like Ed Bott.

Microsoft Press today has announced a free eBook (in PDF format) that covers Windows 10 for IT Professionals. It’s not a huge tome, but a 184 page, 15-chapter overview of some of the key features of Windows 10 1511 that will be of interest to IT Pros looking to install and deploy Windows 10.

[Sobre o Windows 10] Learn the ins and outs of what happens in an upgrade to Windows 10

Q. What happens during a Windows 10 upgrade?
A. There are four key stages related to the Windows 10 upgrade process and a key point is that while an in-place upgrade has been available for a long time it has been avoided in enterprises as very mixed results were found. Huge amounts of work has been done around the in-place upgrade to Windows 10 making it now the preferred option. This FAQ will walk through the four phases that are not always obvious, but happen none the less during the Windows 10 upgrade. I've tried to name the phases what you see on the screen during the upgrade about the actions that are currently being performed.

[Sobre o Windows 10] Announcing Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 14257

Hi everyone,

Today, we are releasing Build 14257 Windows Insiders in the Fast ring.

As I mentioned last week, we’re at the beginning of a new development cycle for our next feature update to Windows 10. Teams are still early in their new feature work and changes in this build are mostly about laying the foundation for those features to start coming into builds. So you won’t see many visible changes quite yet. Also, the increased pace of the Fast ring (You’ll note that this build is only 6 revs newer than the last build we sent to the Fast ring) means that there will be fewer big changes between builds as opposed to this time last year when builds were about 30 days apart. There is a ton of coding work going on, but I want to set your expectations on how it will show up for you at our increased Fast ring pace.

[Sobre o Windows 10] After 6 months, study finds 18% of business running Windows 10 — at least somewhere

As we've previously noted, Microsoft has been incredibly persistent in pushing Windows 10, most recently marking their latest and greatest OS as a recommended update.

That push, with the goal of being on a billion devices in three years, is apparently paying off, even with companies wary of the challenges the upgrade will bring.

Spiceworks recently wrapped up its second report on Windows 10 adoption by IT departments, and found that 18% of business environments surveyed had adopted Windows 10 within the first six months of its release.

[Sobre o Windows 10] Microsoft Edge Priorities for 2016

I have been using Microsoft Edge as my default web browser since Windows 10 arrived last July however, since it is in the very early stages of development I have used IE11 a lot and also kept Firefox and Chrome on my system for backup.
Early on Microsoft Edge has shown itself to be very fast and it has gained new features regularly over the last six months.  I no longer find the need to leave Edge for another browser as much as I did in those early days.

[Sobre Windows 10] How to Prevent Windows 10 from Upgrading your System as a Recommended Update

As of 01 February 2016, Windows 10's status as an update on Windows 7 and 8.1 systems changes from Optional to Recommended and there is one setting in Windows Update on both systems you need to change to make sure you do not get upgraded before you are ready.
It was last fall when Terry Myerson, Microsoft's Executive VP for the Windows and Devices Group, laid out details about controlling the Windows 10 upgrade.
Shortly after his blog post the Windows 10 Upgrade on Windows 7 and 8.1 became an optional update in Windows Update in order to make it easier to find the upgrade. This occurred because they were ending the reservation process that had been in place since before the OS's release on 29 July 2015.
