Windows 10 has been one of the most rapidly growing Windows version when it comes to market share. Today, Net Market Share published its data for April, revealing some slightly interesting stats about the desktop OS market. According to the report, Windows 10 now claims 14.35% of market share, which is slightly higher than the OS’ market share from March (14.15%). Windows 7 still claims most of the market with 48.79% share while Windows 8.1 currently claims 8.16% of the market and quite a lot of computers are still running Windows XP as the OS now claims 9.66% of the market:
  • Windows 7 now claims 48.79% of the market (down from 51.89%)
  • Windows XP: 9.66% (down from 10.9%)
  • Windows 8.1: 9.16% (down from 9.56%)
  • Windows 8: 2.95% (up from 2.45%)
  • OS X 10.11: 3.96% (down from 4.05%)
  • Linux: 1.56% (down from 1.78%)
The report also revealed that Microsoft Edge now claims 3.85% of the market, which isn’t too bad. Microsoft recently announced that Windows 10 is now powering 270 million computers, and the company will be delivering a pretty major update for the OS later this summer. However, the company is still quite far away from its 1 billion devices target, which is quite worrying for the company as the adoption rate continues to slow down.
